Willard Boepple at Fen Ditton Gallery during ‘Shards and Sources’ exhibition, May 2023

Willard Boepple

American artist Willard Boepple is renowned for his large-scale abstract sculptures usually constructed from wood or metal. While living in the UK for two years he began working in coloured translucent resin which subsequently became the inspiration for his vibrant screenprints. Through printmaking, the artist can experiment with different colourways and layering techniques to achieve the illusion of three dimensions, resulting in an extensive portfolio of prints which frequently take his sculpture’s shapes.

Boepple studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and the University of California, Berkley. He has exhibited his work internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions since the early 1970’s. His work is held in several notable public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the National Galleries of Botswana and Kenya. He lives and works in Vermont and New York, USA, often visiting the UK to work with Kip Gresham Editions.
