Join us for an evening with emerging weaver Jacob Monk, whose distinctive Paper Yarn IKAT hangings are currently exhibited in Textiles Today? Three Generations of Artist Weavers.
In conversation with Hannah Munby, Jacob will discuss his practice and the ideas, experiences and relationships that have shaped his approach to weaving. Their conversation will explore the influence of his recent trip to Japan, funded by the 2024 QEST Garfield Weston Foundation Scholarship, and the ways in which this experience expanded his understanding of textile manufacturing, materials and traditional weaving techniques.
Hannah and Jacob will also reflect on the role of mentorship in his development as a maker, including his relationships with two other exhibiting artists, Mary Restieaux and Jun Tomita, and the knowledge and perspectives he has gained through these connections.
Offering an intimate insight into Jacob’s emerging practice, the evening will consider the intersection of tradition and experimentation, the importance of intergenerational dialogue in shaping a contemporary maker’s work.
