Podcast: Jo Barker Tapestry Artist

This week, Hannah interviewed tapestry artist Jo Barker, whose beautiful work is currently exhibiting at the gallery as part of the exhibition Textiles Today? Three Generations of Artist Weavers.

Born and raised in Cumbria, Jo moved to Edinburgh to study Tapestry Design at the Edinburgh College of Art, where she has remained ever since. A city steeped in tapestry history, the course and its surroundings were an inspiring environment for Jo to explore and develop her deep understanding of the art of tapestry, and how exactly to challenge the expectations of the medium. Jo’s tapestries are contemporary and bold, layering blended highlights of colour with gestural strokes, and it was a pleasure to find out more about her practice in this conversation.

Textiles Today? Three Generations of Artist Weavers is open at Fen Ditton Gallery until Sunday 1st November 2026.
