About the artist:

Rachael Neale b.1993 South Cheshire is an artist based in London. Rachael’s practice is routed in intaglio printmaking, drawing and painting;  the themes of her work touch on the emotional ramifications and pleasures of intimacy and solitude. Driven by sensitive and tactile, painterly printmaking processes in relation to this subject, her experimental approach towards material and surface results in multi-layer etchings and monotypes. Within the images, ambiguous figures occupy dream-like interior spaces that are both tender and tense, carnal and distant. Ideas for her work stem from her immediate surroundings and relationships, as well as taking inspiration from the experience of introspection and desire in mythology, folklore and 19th-21st century feminist literature. She is interested in the instinctual, yet blurry nature of the ‘Wild Woman’ archetype and how to express this through mark-making.

Neale completed The Drawing Year at the Royal Drawing School in 2018 and now teaches the Young Artists and Public Programme Faculties at the school. She was awarded the Paragon Press Printmaking Prize and the A-N Membership Bursary Award.
