  • Wilhelmina Barns Graham (1912-2004)
Born in St Andrews, Scotland, Wilhelmina was a core member of the group of modern artists who gathered in St Ives in the mid twentieth century.   Her sixty five year career was marked by a disciplined exploration of the language of abstraction through drawing, painting and printmaking from studios in both St Ives and St Andrews.  Her work was subject of a 2024 film, directed by Mark Cousins, ‘A Sudden Glimpse to Deeper Things’.

Works are included in numerous public collections including: British Museum, London; Kettles Yard, Cambridge; Leeds City Art Gallery; National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh; Tate Gallery; Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

‘Life is so exciting; nature is so exciting. Trying to catch that one simple statement about it. That’s what I’m aiming for.’
