About the Artist:

Chris Eckersley (b. 1952) is an artist and designer who originally studied Sculpture, and later Design at Central Saint Martins, London. His work covers drawing, installation, three-dimensional design, research into measurement and proportion, and designs for furniture. Chris is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and also of the Learned Society of Extra Ordinary Objects. He is co-founder of the experimental Bodging Milano project which promotes links between contemporary design, traditional craft, and improvised making.

The Devon Chair was awarded a Design Guild Mark by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers. It developed out of a residency he held in an Ash woodland in Herefordshire, where he learnt the ancient art of bodging (green-wood furniture making).
