About the artist

William Orme is a printmaker whose work is defined by a long-standing interest in complementary colours and the tactile textures unique to various printing processes. His formal introduction to the medium began during his Art A-levels under the influence of Mark Chevington, whose preference for rich lino textures left a lasting impression on Orme's aesthetic. Although he pursued a professional career in engineering and technology, he has maintained a continuous practice in drawing, painting, and printmaking.

Orme’s technical progression has moved through several distinct stages. He began with multi-colour reduction lino before expanding into colour stone lithography, followed by colour multi-block etching and drypoint. In recent years, his focus has shifted to multi-layer silkscreens. Through these various methods, he experiments with landscapes, still life, and abstract forms, aiming to capture specific moods and stimulate the imagination.

Since 2018, Orme has been based at St Barnabas Press in Cambridge. He exhibits regularly within the local arts community, participating in Cambridge Open Studios and showing work at the St Barnabas Centre during the Mill Road Winter Fair in 2025. His current work remains committed to the vibrant use of colour and the creation of rich, layered surfaces that first drew him to the medium.
