Suman Gujral’s work meditates on universal issues – joy, sorrow, struggle and human resilience, feeling her role as an artist is to cast light onto difficult issues and generate discussion through her visual work and poetry.

This work shows the border between India and West Pakistan, imposed in 1947. This partition resulted in untold millions being forcibly displaced and killed. Gujral’s own family fled their childhood homes and never returned. The border has been reversed to become a symbol for all the borders put up to divide and displace people.

Gujral completed an MA in Fine Arts, University of Hertfordshire in 2018 and Advanced Certificate in Printmaking from the Curwen Print Studio in 2015. She is a member of the Printmaker’s Council and Digswell Print.
