About the artist:

Jim Butler was born in Dublin and has lived in Cambridge since 2007. He teaches Illustration at Cambridge School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University. His work has been exhibited widely in galleries in the UK, Europe, Mexico and the USA. Illustration clients include The Guardian, Adidas and New Island Books. His book Blackrock Sequence won the 2018 AOI World Illustration Award for best professional book. He work is held in prominent publics collections including the Tate, Fitzwilliam Museum, Bodleian Library and British Library, amongst others.

This screenprint is based on Dublin’s Heuston Bridge. The bridge is single span with tapered granite piers and decorative iron-work. In 1941 it was renamed after the Irish republican Seán Heuston, who was executed in May 1916 following the Easter Rising. The black text in the print is a rubbing taken from the plaque on the bridge to mark the 1941 renaming. This screenprint is part of an ongoing series of prints, Liffey Sequence, based on Dublin’s Liffey quays.
