About the artist:

Penny Collier’s practice takes an explorative approach towards imaginative narratives, employing traditional printing methods to do so. By subscribing to traditional means of production, she allows her practice to thrive on the restrictions of a press room, dictated by colour theory and paper sizes are confined to the dimensions of the printing press. Colour plays a huge role within her working process and holds as much weight as the drawing itself. By using a reduction technique, layers of colour are built on top of one another to create a dynamic depth of field which draws the audience into a microcosm of human endeavour. The inspiration for this subject is derived from vintage, lithographic children’s books, Czechoslovakian stamps, and printed ephemera. These historical references ground the outcome in a lost world, exploring the theme of escapism through tales of Arctic explorations and ghost stories of disappearing into the mysterious source of the Nile.
