About the artist
Tushka (Chrissy Mouncey) is a contemporary artist based in North Devon whose work focuses on the transient moments of wonder experienced in the natural world. After studying Fine Art at Plymouth University and Graphic Design at UAL, London, she developed her practice at Spike Print Studio in Bristol and is now an associate member at Double Elephant Print Studio in Exeter.
Her practice is rooted in seascapes and landscapes, using these familiar environments to explore the sensory stimulation of light, colour, and movement. By documenting ordinary experiences that are often quickly forgotten, Tushka attempts to create a sense of permanence for passing moments. She uses her own photography as a primary reference, influenced by the writings of Robert Macfarlane and Roger Deakin, who highlight the human need for the positivity found in nature.
Tushka’s work typically evolves from charcoal drawings or painted sketches into mono-printed screen prints. She builds her images by layering contrast, shadow, and mark-making, allowing the screen-printing process itself to mirror the layers of experience and sensation she witnessed. This methodical accumulation of colour is intended to hold onto the emotional connection of a specific time and place, sharing a sense of hope and uplift with the viewer.
