About the artist
Loraine Monk is a printmaker whose work is grounded in a sense of place and community. Utilising both relief and intaglio processes, specifically lino and woodcut alongside etching and aquatint, she constructs images that explore narratives of transformation and fragmented memory.
Her thematic focus has shifted over time, moving from early depictions of human conflict toward a broader investigation of environmental destruction, occluded histories, and cinematic memories. These subjects are often filtered through a lens of personal or collective experience, resulting in layered compositions that reflect the complexity of her chosen themes.
Monk completed an MA in Printmaking at Camberwell in 2021 and is a member of the Printmakers Council. Her exhibition history includes shows in the UK, Sweden, and Germany, with work featured in the International Original Print Exhibition, the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, and the Society of Women Artists. She has also held a residency at Kingston Museum in London, continuing to show her work in both independent galleries and major institutional exhibitions.
