Fen Ditton Gallery is delighted to present Inherited Lines, an exhibition of works by Tim Gresham (Penfold) and his father, the late Kip Gresham.

Kip Gresham (1951–2024) was a prolific artist and one of the UK’s most respected master printmakers, renowned for his technical innovation and collaborative approach. His son, Tim Gresham (b. 1987) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is characterised by a bold, intuitive use of colour and an interest in layered composition, balancing spontaneity with a deep understanding of material and process... an understanding he owes greatly to the influence of Kip and their time working together at The Print Studio, Cambridge.
Tim comments:
“Through Dad, I grew up surrounded by incredible artwork, from Eduardo Paolozzi sculptures to Peter Blake prints, and this went on to shape my taste in art. It was when I was 18 and worked with Dad at the studio that I learnt pretty much everything I know now about colour theory, texture, technique, application and approach.
Fen Ditton Gallery was really important to Dad and, with the recent second anniversary of his passing, if feels right to honour him in this way, hanging our work side by side. Something I wish we’d done whilst he was still with us.”
This exhibition brings together a collection of new and unseen works by these two artists, alongside some of the major collaborations they worked on during Tim’s time at the studio, most notably with artists Stephen Chambers RA, John McLean and Willard Boepple.
Run by mother and daughter duo Lotte Attwood and Hannah Munby, both photographers by training, Fen Ditton Gallery has a particular interest in intergenerational dialogue. We are delighted to work with Tim, Jane and The Print Studio, Cambridge to present this exhibition.

About Tim Gresham (Penfold)
Tim Gresham, working under the name Penfold, is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, print, and visual experimentation. His work is characterised by a bold, intuitive use of colour and an interest in layered composition, balancing spontaneity with a deep understanding of material and process. Having spent formative years immersed in the print studio, Tim’s approach is informed by both technical knowledge and a willingness to push beyond it. Inherited Lines marks a significant moment in his practice, as he reflects on this early influence while asserting a distinct and independent visual language.
About Kip Gresham
Kip Gresham (1951–2024) was a prolific artist and one of the UK’s most respected master printmakers, renowned for his technical innovation and collaborative approach. He established several influential and highly productive printmaking studios and publishing houses, including the Manchester Print Workshop in 1975 and the Chilford Hall Press in 1982 in partnership with Sam Alper. He became director and master printer at both Curwen Chilford Prints (1989-1994) and Gresham Studios (1994-2001), before establishing The Print Studio, Cambridge in 2002.
His final major collaboration was Sea Grape, created with painter Hurvin Anderson. The work stands as a testament to Kip’s lifelong commitment to experimentation and dialogue between artist and printmaker.

Fen Ditton Gallery worked with Kip Gresham on a number of exhibitions in the final few years of his life, including The Language of Abstraction (2022), Shards and Sources (2023) and his final exhibition A Gathering of Friends (2024). He was a dear friend and huge supporter of the gallery and we are delighted to be working with Tim to honour Kip’s life and legacy in this way.
