Mary Restieaux (b. 1945)
Mary Restieaux is a master British weaver and textile designer universally celebrated for revitalising the ancient resist-dyeing art of ikat. Initially studying History of Art at the Cambridge College of Art, her passion for making led her to retrain in woven textiles at Chelsea and the Royal College of Art, where she graduated in 1974 under the tutelage of legendary designer Marianne Straub.
Her textiles are held in major public collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Crafts Council Collection, the Government Art Collection, and the National Portrait Gallery.
